Please Note, Medical Emergencies will begin at 8:30AM and Infection Control will begin at approximately 10:30AM, after a brief break.

Speaker: Lisa Kane, DMD

Lisa Kane received her DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and her B.S. from Brandeis University. She has practiced general dentistry in the Greater Boston Area for over 20 years.  She is currently the owner of Dental Office Compliance of New England LLC,  which assists dental practices in complying with the myriad of regulations required by their state board, OSHA, and the CDC.  She teaches infection control and OSHA training,  creates personalized plans and protocols for dental practices, and helps them navigate the world of dental compliance. 

Course Description:

1. Are you in Compliance? Infection Control Review

    • Better understanding Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings: Basic Expectations for Safe Care from the CDC

    • Clarification of OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard

    • Review of OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard

    • Becoming aware of how all of this relates to you every day in your office

    • Strategies to keep your office in compliance with current regulations

    • Recognizing common areas where lapses occur and learning how to correct them

In addition to the above, Dr. Kane will talk about:

The latest CDC and OSHA guidelines, how to reduce aerosols, respiratory protection and what is involved with that, N95s (including coupon code for comfortable and available Readimask N95, water testing and maintenance, proper PPE usage, recordkeeping requirements, SDS, GHS Symbols, and more.

2. All about M.E.!  Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office

    • An understanding of what is in your emergency kit

    • Common medical emergencies in the dental office

    • Emergency scenarios that may occur in your office and how to respond

    • How to best prepare for an emergency

In addition to the above, Dr. Kane will talk about:

Discussion of specific emergencies and step by step treatments as you wait for help to arrive, importance of assigning roles in the office, importance of having safety meetings with acting out of different scenarios, ways that you can take a good medical history to possible ward off an emergency, development of an action plan, being able to recognize a patient’s distress, and more.
